What are Core Deliveries and what do they cost?
Materials Market is unique among online building material retailers because we offer localised delivery of hundreds of regularly stocked products. Thanks to our vast supplier network, we’re able to offer significantly lower delivery charges than our competitors.
To further strengthen our offering, we’ve introduced a Core product range—our most popular and easily fulfilled items—subject to reduced delivery rates:

How It Works
Products marked as “Core” retain their original delivery group (e.g. Group A for insulation), but are also evaluated under two separate delivery calculation methods:
- Core Method: Sums the value of all core products and calculates charges separately for any remaining non-core items.
- Primary Method: Uses the original delivery band pricing (unchanged).
The most economical option between the two methods is automatically applied.
Example:
If the delivery charge for an order is cheaper using the timber threshold (£250) than the core threshold (£300), the platform will apply the primary method.
In the basket, we'll still show customers how their total delivery charge is calculated and whether it is based on the "Core" delivery terms or the primary method.
Now that products fall into two different delivery categories, we're not able to provide customers with information about how close they are to free delivery. For example, a customer could be £100 away from free delivery for insulation and drylining, but only £50 away for core products.
Note that when the "Core" and primary methods result in the same delivery charge, we default to showing the primary approach.
In the delivery policy in the basket we explain the grouping for applicable orders.
Products can be marked as "Core" via the UI or the product csvs.
In Super Admin, a "Core delivery" tag is added for applicable orders. When an order is split both orders retain the tag.
